General FAQS

WHAT IS SELF STORAGE?

Our Self Storage Centre in Stirling has a selection of unit sizes that you can hire for short or long term. You bring your possessions to our centre, pack and lock them up in the unit. You can access your unit anytime, with your unique access code. You can store almost anything – there are a few exceptions that cannot be stored. Please speak to a member of the team if you have any more questions regarding prohibited items.

WHAT SECURITY DO YOU HAVE?

The security of your belongings is vital to us and underpins our service. Our facility has sophisticated alarm systems, individually alarmed units, 24/7 CCTV surveillance and a staffed reception. Your unique pin code that you create when you rent the unit, provides only you access to your unit which is securely locked with your own padlock.

HOW DO I BOOK A UNIT?

You can book your room by phone, email or complete our Get Quote online form.

DO I NEED MY OWN PADLOCK?

Yes. This ensures you are the sole key holder to your storage unit. We supply a range of high security padlocks available to buy at time of rental. You can provide your own but it must be the correct size and of suitable durability. Please check with us if you are bringing your own padlock.

CAN I ALLOW OTHER PEOPLE TO ACCESS MY ROOM?

Yes. You can have as many or as few people as you want. They need to be named on your account and you will be responsible for giving them access codes and padlock keys.

CAN I RENT A PADLOCK?

No. We do not offer padlock rental service. You can buy a padlock from us.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?

Our Building is open 24/7 but our administration office is open from Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00, Saturday 10:00-15:00, Sunday closed.

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED IN THE STORE?

Yes. Children are welcome, but must be supervised by an adult at all times.

ARE PETS ALLOWED IN THE STORE?

No pets are allowed in our facility. With the exception of guide dogs.

DO YOU OFFER STORAGE FOR BUSINESS?

Yes. We offer flexible storage solutions with no maximum length of stay.

Cost

HOW MUCH DOES STORAGE COST?

There are three costs to consider – your storage fees, insurance and a secure padlock for your room.

Our prices vary according to the size of your required storage unit.

In addition to the storage unit rent, you will need to pay for insurance to cover the value of your possessions. The cost of this insurance will depend on the value of replacing your goods at the time of rental.

ARE THERE ANY HIDDEN COSTS?

No. We have no hidden costs and your quote will show all costs upfront. There are 3 costs to consider – storage fees, insurance and a secure padlock for your room.

Your quote will include the cost for storage based upon your unit size and include VAT.

Insurance is based on the cost of replacing your goods as new if you had to buy them again at time of rental.

Finally, you will need a padlock and key. You can buy this from us or elsewhere but they must be the correct size and of suitable durability. Please check with us if you are bringing your own padlock.

We will quote your unit for free with no obligation to rent.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE PAID UP FRONT?

Nothing unless you reserve a unit.

DO I PAY WEEKLY OR FOUR WEEKLY BASIS?

We will invoice you on a four weekly basis, payable in advance. However we only ask for 7 days notice when you vacate your storage unit and we refund you any unused storage charges and insurance.

WHAT KIND OF PAYMENT METHODS ARE AVAILABLE?

Most customers pay their bills by Direct Debit or cash payments. However we also accept payments via debit cards and credit cards excluding American Express and Diners.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR THINGS IF I MISS A PAYMENT?

We will send you a reminder before this point and contact you to settle payment before it becomes an issue. However if you do miss a payment, we will allow you 7 days to settle your outstanding amount. If not received after 7 days, you will be charged a late fee, your room will be locked by us and your entry code will be temporarily disabled. As per your rental agreement you will be informed in writing when this takes place. We will contact you to inform of any further developments if your bill remains outstanding.

RENTAL PERIOD

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM RENTAL PERIOD?

The minimum rental period is 7 days.

HOW LONG CAN I STORE?

For as long as you require. We have no maximum rental period.

HOW QUICKLY CAN I MOVE IN?

You can start using the storage unit as soon as you provided the relevant documentation needed to complete and sign your contract.

INSURANCE

WHY DO I NEED INSURANCE?

Your possessions must be insured while in storage. We take great care of the safety and security of your storage unit, but some things are outwith our control such as fire or flood, which may damage your goods. Therefore it is standard practice to have insurance in place.

IS INSURANCE COMPULSORY?

Yes. You must take out insurance either with our own bespoke package or provide proof of cover that states possessions are being stored by Crest at our centre.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE OUT CREST INSURANCE?

No. You can take our your own insurance but it must cover the goods being placed in self storage.

Not all home insurance will cover you so please check the terms and conditions of your insurance.

You will need to provide us with proof of cover if not using ours. It must state that goods are stored at our premises including address. It is your responsibility to keep your insurance valid.

WHAT ARE INSURANCE COSTS?

The value of insurance is dependent on what will be stored. The cost of insurance starts from £4 per week for up to £1,000 contents value (pro rata £8 for up to £2000 £12 for up to £3000 etc), it is up to you to declare the full replacement value of goods being store – DO NOT BE UNDER INSURED.
